France Gina Gates (nee Normand)
June 6, 1953 – December 15, 2025
France passed away peacefully with her family by her side on December 15, 2025, at Royal University Hospital, Saskatoon, SK, at the age of 72. France was born on June 6, 1953, in Rosetown, SK. She was the eldest daughter of the late Bertrand and Marie Paule (nee Dube) of Sovereign, SK. France attended Sovereign Elementary School and Milden Central High School. Upon graduating from high school in 1971, she attended SIAST, receiving a Diploma of Technology in Food Service in 1973. France's career in food services began in Kamsack, SK. In 1974, she married Glen Gates.
They briefly made their home in Nipawin, where Glen worked in the fertilizer business, and then moved to Abbotsford, BC, to work in his trade, farm machinery mechanics. In 1976, when Roy Gates offered Glen and France the chance to return to the family farm, they jumped at the offer.
While working at the Rosetown Union Hospital, their family grew with Eric born in 1984 and Adam in 1987. France's position evolved as the local hospital became part of the Midwest District and later Heartland Health Region. After 35 years, she retired in October 2014. France is survived by her husband, Glen, and sons Eric (Laural) of Hinton and Adam (Mandy) and their daughter, Bailey, of Milden.
