Minor Ball

Minor ball provincial playoffs are quickly approaching.

In baseball, officials of the Rosetown 18-and-under team are awaiting confirmation for that team's playoffs.

Two Rosetown 15-and-under baseball teams will be in provincial playoffs, said Amber Wickett, who manages one of the teams.

Draws weren't available and locations haven't been announced, but Baseball Saskatchewan had posted tiers for teams.

One Rosetown 15U team is in Tier 4 playoffs on July 17-19 with the Regina White Sox, Shaunavon Badgers, Yorkton Cardinals, Delisle Tigers, Lumsden Cubs, Sask Five Aces, Watrous Lakers, Saskatoon Cardinal Thunder and Unity Cardinals.

That Angels team is coached by Ryan Wickett with help from Brett Gray, Joel McGrath and Noah Gowen.

The other 15U Angels team is playing in eight-team Tier 6 playoffs from July 31 to Aug. 2. Those Angels are coached by Jared St. John, Dustin Moore, James Myers of Elrose and Rob Minogue, and managed by Meagan Craig, said Wickett.

The 13U Angels baseball team is in Tier 8 playoffs on July 24-26, which didn't have a host as of late last week. Matt Choumont is the head coach for those Angels.

The 11U Angels are in Tier 3 playoffs on July 17-19, with the location yet to be determined. The Carnduff Astros, Muenster Red Sox, Macklin Lakers, Meadow Lake Sox, Western Dust Devils, Nipawin Giants and the host Cardinals will be the competition.

These Angels have Adam Johb as head coach, Kent Carlson, Lary Kadler and Tyler Moore as assistants, and Kyle Macey as manager, said Carlson.

Asher Carlson, Walker Johb, Parker Kadler, Zak Kadler, Layton Herring, Cooper Cairns, Viktor Melnyk, Felix Spratt, Harrison Macey, Daxon Summach and Kale Choumont make up the team.

The Angels have an exhibition game against Kindersley here on July 7.

They had played in two tournaments so far this season, said Carlson.

The Angels went 1-3 in a tournament in Swift Current on June 5-7.

"We saw some really good pitching and some teams that hit the ball really well, so it was a good learning curve for us," he said.

They won the B final 13-3 in four innings at a tournament in Muenster on June 20-21. They lost the first game in an extra inning and then defeated Muenster in the bottom of the sixth inning by scoring six runs to win 10-9. They faced a Meadow Lake team in the B final that had beaten them 4-1 in the Swift Current tournament.

Softball playoffs

The under-13 Angels will attend North C provincial playoffs in Macklin on July 10-12. Twelve other teams will also be competing, said Rosetown coach Aline Waite.

As reported previously, the under-11 Angels are to play in the U11 B North girls provincial playoffs in Warman on July 3-5.

Another honour

Besides being named to the school sports wall of fame, retiring teacher-coach Gary Paproski of Rosetown Central High School recently received a Saskatchewan High School Athletic Association service award.

Fall senior football

Testing of players takes place on Aug. 19 and fall practice starts the next day. The following schedule is about 90 per cent accurate, said head coach Mitchell Wintonyk.

This includes exhibition games for what the coach calls the junior varsity squad, consisting of Grade 9 players and some in Grades 10 and 11.

"We're excited to get those kids four games this year," wrote Wintonyk in an email.

The Royals host the Davidson Raiders on Sept. 10, have an exhibition game with the Kindersley Kobras on Sept. 11, play a night game in Clavet on Sept. 17, an exhibition game in Plenty on Sept. 18 and host the Assiniboia Rockets in Elrose on Sept. 25.

They host the Delisle Rebels in an exhibition game on Oct. 1, have the Friday Night Lights game at home against the Clavet Cougars on Oct. 9, play in Assiniboia on Oct. 16, an exhibition game in Macklin on Oct. 20 and in Davidson on Oct. 23.
