October 19, 1935 - June 25, 2026
It is with sadness the family of Winnifred Veitenheimer announces her death on June 25, 2026 at the age of 90. She is survived by her son Kevin and grandchildren Danielle, Joseph and Louis; daughter Linda (John); daughter Betty and grandsons Dallas (Emilie) and their daughters Callie and Mylie; Dylan; Lance (Cierra); and Luke (Jordyn); daughter Susan (Randy) and grandchildren Meagan (Brandon), Justin and Lindsey; and son Murray (Sarah) and grandchildren Hannah (Landon) and their children LJ and Joey; Kyle; and Morgan; brother Webster (Loretta); brother-in-law Carl; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Bob, parents, sister Vivian, sister-in-law Gloria, brother-in-law Don and son-in-law Darrell.
She was born on October 19, 1935, the second child of Ingvald Haugen and Isabel MacLean and twin of Webster. She grew up and attended school in Glamis, Saskatoon and Rosetown. After high school she attended teachers’ college and then taught in Harris, Sovereign and Rosetown. In 1960 she married Robert “Bob” Veitenheimer of Sovereign where they settled to raise a family. In 1984 they moved to the farm and then to Rosetown in 2008. She remained in Rosetown after Bob’s death in 2019 until 2024 when she moved to Humboldt and was subsequently admitted to St. Mary’s Villa in Humboldt.
Although she retired from full-time teaching with the birth of her children, she remained involved in education and music education for many years. She was a teacher at heart and had a lifelong interest in learning. Her family was her greatest love. She took enormous joy and pride in her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and they became her students. She sewed, knitted, crocheted and quilted, mainly to the benefit of her family.
She actively volunteered in the community and was a member of the United Church Women, Women’s Institute, Rosetown and District Music Festival, Prairie West Regional College and its predecessor Prairie West Community College. She played piano at many community events and substituted as organist at church as well as baking countless pies and goodies with all the other ladies in the community for the Sovereign Memorial Rink, the Sovereign Community Hall and the Sovereign United Church. After moving to Rosetown, she sang with the Rosetown community choir as well as sharing accompanying duties on the piano.
We would like to thank the St. Mary’s Villa (Humboldt) for the care she received over the past two years.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, July 2, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at the Rosetown United Church.
Memorial donations may be directed to the Alex Ositis Foundation, P.O. Box 1251, Rosetown, SK, S0L 2V0.
