Edyth Ptolemy

1927 – 2026

Edyth Ptolemy was born on June 21, 1927, on the Turner family farm northeast of Wiseton, Saskatchewan. She received her education at Almonte and Wiseton schools.

Edyth met the love of her life, Earl Ptolemy, and they were married on May 3, 1947, in Sovereign. Together they farmed south of Dinsmore, where they raised their family. Four children joined the family—Gary, Lyla, Linn, and Eric—and later Edyth's eldest son, Bob.  Additionally, Earl and Edyth operated the telephone office in Hughton for three years.

Edyth was actively involved in many organizations, including the Kinettes and K-ettes, the Dinsmore-Wiseton Legion, and the Dinsmore United Church. She served as Treasurer for the King George Hall and was active with the Pontiac Homemakers.

In 1974, Earl and Edyth moved from the farm into Dinsmore, where Edyth worked at the Dinsmore Shop Rite. She had a lifelong love of music and shared her talent as a pianist at countless community functions and with the Gaiety group, as well as teaching piano to many students. She enjoyed curling, cheering on local sports teams, and supporting community events.

Edyth and Earl shared a love of dancing. They participated in a square dance club and taught dance lessons. An avid reader, Edyth's love of books was evident in the library she built throughout her home. Together, she and Earl hosted many family gatherings and welcomed opportunities to enjoy card games, puzzles, and visits with family and friends.

Edyth will be remembered for her strength, generosity, sense of humour, and the unwavering love she showed her family. She leaves a legacy of kindness, devotion, and countless cherished memories. Those who knew her will also remember the warmth of her home and the genuine welcome she extended to everyone who crossed her doorstep.

Edyth was predeceased by her loving husband, Earl; her parents, Hazel and Cam Turner; her siblings, Archie (Corrine), Edmund (Doris), Myrtle (Holt), and Faye (Lloyd); her sons, Gary and Bob; her great-granddaughter, Scarlet; and her granddaughter-in-law, Jayne Freeman.
