Helen Kutz

November 2, 1929 - June 14, 2026

With family by her side, Helen Gertrude Kutz (Casey) passed peacefully to join her life partner Leonard on June 14, 2026 at the age of 96.

Helen was born on November 2, 1929 in Elrose, Saskatchewan to Annie and Sylvester Casey the eldest of seven children. The family moved from Plato to Elrose in 1937 where Helen spent her formative years, graduating from Elrose High School in 1948. She attended St Paul’s School of Nursing earning her nursing diploma in 1951. Helen was employed at hospitals in Westlock, Beechy and Kyle before marrying her high school sweetheart, Leonard in 1952. They settled on the family farm in Elrose and raised their seven children. They farmed for over 50 years alongside their son John and wife Sharon, moving from the farm to Elrose in 1992. In 2018, Helen and Leonard moved to Saskatoon to Trinity Manor. Helen enjoyed the community of the manor, attending daily mass, singsongs, always having time for a visit with other residents and never missing any musical entertainment.

Helen created a loving and faithful home for her family, extending that faith and warmth to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her smile always brightened when they entered the room and was delighted when she heard that she would soon be welcoming her 61st great grandchild. Helen and Leonard were present at all family gatherings and important milestones, never missing an opportunity to spend time with those they loved. Whether hosting their grandchildren for lunch or taking the entire family on memorable adventures, they created countless cherished memories, from trips to Kananaskis, West Edmonton Mall, and an epic bus journey to Disneyland bringing everyone together and creating treasured experiences.

A gracious lady who deeply cared for her community and her Church, Helen was a member of the Elrose Music Association, Elrose Lioness and Catholic Women’s League at the local and Diocesan level receiving acknowledgement for her contributions. She volunteered her time for the local museum and history book committees.

Over the years, Helen played ball, tennis, curled and when she was younger, never missed a dance at Clearwater Lake. She loved music, enjoyed sewing, needlework, was always up to date on current events and cherished her visits with family and friends. Her cookie jar was always full, and the kitchen table was the heart of her home - a place where people gathered to enjoy great food, share stories, make lasting memories, and laugh together.

Helen will be remembered for her unwavering faith, love and dedication to her family, donation of time and resources to many charities and community projects, elegant appearance, her caring nature and the warmth and kindness she shared with everyone she met.

Mom was the heart and soul of our family and we will feel her loss deeply but we know she is together again with Dad, praying the Rosary for those who are left behind and reunited with the loved ones who left us too soon.

Helen is lovingly remembered by her children Mary Ann (Ken) Hamilton, Jackie (Doug) Shaw, Audrey (Lorrie) Reed, Joan (Michael) McDonald, Louise (Duncan) Campbell, Marilyn (Dave) Martin, her daughter in law Sharon Kutz, sister Eva Ann Grace, brothers Mike (Brenda) Casey and Pat Casey. Her spirit will live on in her 25 surviving grandchildren (and spouses) and 60 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by husband Leonard, her parents Annie and Sylvester Casey, siblings Audrey Casey, John Casey, Gordon Casey, her son John Kutz, grandchildren Russell Hamilton, Diana Campbell and Abbie Speir.

The family would like to thank the staff at Trinity Manor for their support while Mom and Dad resided there, as well as the staff at RUH and Cozy Nest for their care and compassion during Mom's final days.
