Swimming

The Rosetown Royals Speed Swim Team held a meet here on Saturday. Twelve clubs, including the host club, and 136 swimmers were registered. Three Royals attended the Humboldt meet on the June 13-14 weekend.

"They had an amazing first meet of the season and are improving old times by a considerable amount," said coach Janel Merrifield.

Jacob Nickel placed third in the boys 11 and older 50-metre butterfly race, fourth in the 100-metre freestyle and fifth in both the 25-metre butterfly and 50-metre freestyle.

Carson Gramlich finished seventh in the boys 11 and older 25-metre breaststroke, eighth in the 25-metre freestyle, ninth in the 50-metre breaststroke and 13th in the 25-metre backstroke.

Jaycie Fortin placed second in the girls 10 and under 50-metre butterfly race and fourth in four others: the 25-metre butterfly and freestyle, 100-metre freestyle and 100-metre individual medley.

"All the swimmers have been working hard in the pool during practices since we started back up swimming in Rosetown at the beginning of June. Our competitive-level swimmers are swimming four times a week to prepare for their season and are showing great improvement already!" Merrifield wrote.

Bowling

Local bowlers are leaving Saturday for Burlington and Hamilton, Ont., and the Master Bowlers of Canada national championships.

Walter Fernets will bowl on the Saskatchewan seniors team. Dave Graham will coach the provincial teaching ladies division team. His wife Kelly, Courtney Jones and Diane Misener, along with two non-local women, will round out that team, said Penny Andersen from the local alley. They are expected to return July 3.

Correction: Rosetown Central High School finished seventh, not third, in points among 3A schools at the provincial track and field meet in Saskatoon on June 5-6. The Royals accumulated 92 points, just behind Maidstone with 94 and well ahead of Esterhazy with 76.
