Sask honouring top helpers

EAGLE STAFF

The nomination period for the 2025 Saskatchewan Volunteer Medal has opened.

"For decades I have had the pleasure of working alongside dedicated and enthusiastic volunteers," Lt.-Gov. Bernadette McIntyre said in a statement. "No matter what the cause or event, right across the province, Saskatchewan volunteers step up. Things get done and our communities flourish because of volunteers.”

Sandi Lougheed of Beechy, who served as the 2022 president of Canadian Royal Purple and still represents this province on its board, was among the 14 people honoured in 2024. Lougheed joined the Zealandia Royal Purple in 1970 and has also served with lodges in Kindersley, Pinehouse and Regina, besides Beechy.

Individuals or groups may nominate current or former long-term residents of the province by Oct. 31, either online or by mail, courier or in person. See Saskatchewan.ca/honoursawards for more information or to make a nomination.
