Rosetown renews membership in regional municipal committee

Rosetown is rejoining the West Central Municipal Government Committee.
Councillors passed a motion to do so at their Jan. 22 meeting. The town didn’t renew its membership in 2025 because no local councillors were attending meetings, said Amanda Bors, the town’s acting chief administrator.
Rural municipalities, towns and villages, along with school divisions and Rivers West, make up the committee, which meets monthly, half the time online.
“You can advocate with each other, network,” said councillor Jan Coffey-Olson adding, “It would be a way to push on SUMA (the Saskatchewan Urban Municipalities Association), because this group has the ear of SUMA.”
“Everyone’s got the same thing they need to do - expanding the lagoons, water treatment plants, highways,” Mayor Trevor Hay said.
Some councillors said they could attend at least an occasional meeting and they could participate at the town office for those that occur online, Bors agreed.
