110 years ago - June 8, 1916
Six more people had joined D Company, a Rosetown-based unit of the 232nd Battalion. They were M. J. Assaly and Harry Davis, both of Rosetown; Douglas Holtby of Milden, Charles D. Hunter of Zealandia, Albert J. Lemieux of Ridpath and John Crawford of an unknown address. They, 34 others who’d already enlisted here and 40 who’d joined in Kerrobert, Kindersley and Wilkie meant that only another 170 men were needed to complete D Company.
A certain species of insect had appeared here on June 4 “and played havoc with the foliage of ornamental trees.” A government district representative classified it as a beetle.
100 years ago - June 10, 1926
Rosetown and Fiske teams reached the baseball tournament final at the King’s Birthday celebration on June 3 in Dinsmore. The game got called off before it started due to darkness. The teams split the prize money.
Arthur Pentland left Anglia to join a government geological survey party in the southern Alberta foothills.
Mrs. Albert Kolofa embarked on a three-month visit of relatives and friends in Czecho-Slovakia, stopping on the way to see her sister in Montreal, said the Valley Centre correspondent.
Three dozen oranges could be bought for $1 at William Aberdeen’s store.
Large cans of Libby’s pork and beans, regularly 35¢, were on for 25¢ each at Assaly Bros.

50 years ago - June 9, 1976
Joan Tollefson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Austin Coulter, graduated from McMaster University in Hamilton, Ont., with a bachelor of arts degree in anthropology. She and husband Jim Tollefson were living in Oakville, Ont.
A fire of unknown origin at noon on June 7 partially destroyed the travel trailer belonging to the Bob Fishers. As it was parked beside their house, quick action by the Rosetown Fire Department was necessary to keep the fire from spreading.
The Rosetown Legion branch celebrated its 50th anniversary on Saturday, May 29. About 50-60 children watched afternoon movies and had refreshments.
About 600 people partook of a beef barbecue supper at the sports centre supplied by Albert and Alvie Longworth with help by Legion members.
The Bonnie Blue Bells pipe band from Saskatoon then put on a program of pipe music and Scottish dancing, after which the Longworth orchestra played music for a dance attended by about 500 people. Nicole Normand, the Legion’s carnival queen candidate, made two draws of $50 cash prizes, won by Marguerite Nicolson and Ed McKercher.
The Eagle subscription rate went to $7.50 per year from $6.00.
30 years ago - June 10, 1996
Local enthusiasts met on Feb. 18, formed the Rosetown Stock Car Club and, with seven cars, did their first races on the past weekend at the dirt track southwest of town. The last time stock car racing had been held there was in the early 1980s, said club president Devon Brown. No cap on the money that could be spent on cars was why it died out; the new club has a cap, the same as clubs in Outlook and Swift Current, said Brown and fellow member Duayne Leys.
20 years ago - June 12, 2006
A loud muffler led to Rosetown RCMP stopping a car on Highway 7 and discovering in it five pounds of marijuana, said Cpl. Ian Skinner. He and Cst. Daryl Bidochka charged two Saskatoon males and seized the drugs, the car and $500 in cash, said Skinner. The men were released under an undertaking to appear in court here on June 27.
