Dynamos down league leaders
By David McIver
Going into last Friday’s game in Loreburn, the Dinsmore Dynamos sat in fifth place in the 10-team Sask Valley Hockey League. The Dynamos were to host the Craik Warriors on Saturday.
The Dinsmore squad had six wins, four losses and one overtime win. After the weekend, they had five games left in the regular season and, mathematically, plenty of opportunities to move up in the standings.
The Dynamos more than helped their cause by upsetting the league-leading Kenaston Blizzards 10-6 in Dinsmore on Jan. 4.
But then they dropped their next game, 6-2 in Davidson on Wednesday and to climb into the top four spots, they need to play above .500.
Corbin Shaw, a former Rosetown Redwing, and import Justin Ball scored their goals in Davidson.
Declan Hobbs made 47 saves in the Dynamo net.
Tory Allan, with two; Coy McPhee, Ian Parker, Kent Walchuk and Hunter Herback got Cyclone goals. Darwin Morin got four assists.
Their netminder, Brett Matlock, stopped 36 Dynamo drives.
The Dynamos led the Blizzards 5-2 and 9-5 by periods.
Ball scored four goals, Chad Westman had two and Easton Genest, Parker Atkinson, Josh Uhrich, Logan Casavant also tallied.
Hobbs made 44 saves.
Former Rosetown minor hockey player and university player Shane Collins and Carson Stadnyk each scored twice for the Blizzards. Zach Huber and Levi Cable also had goals.
Blizzards goalie Carson George made 14 saves on 22 shots before giving way to Connor George who stopped two of four shots.
As of Friday afternoon, the Blizzards had a 12-1 record for 36 points and first place, the Kyle Elks had 33 points in 13 games; the Davidson Cyclones, 24 points in 10 games and the Loreburn 19ers had 21 points in 10 games.
The Craik Warriors had the sixth spot with 15 points in 10 games; the Eston Ramblers, eight points in 14 games; the Delisle Bruins, five points in the 10 games; the Beechy-Lucky Lake Lakers, five points in 11 games and the Outlook Ice Hawks, four points in 12 games.
