Water plant halted by computer crash

Water treatment stopped for part of a day after the computer “that runs” the treatment plant went down.

Workers there switched to a backup computer that required updating after the computer crashed, public works superintendent Bob Bors informed councillors during their meeting on Jan. 5.

“We were down, in treating water, about three-quarters of a day until we had everything back up and running,” Bors said. He was in the process of getting the main one replaced.

The company involved in setting up the electro-dialysis reversal (EDR) system at the treatment plant had supplied the computer that crashed, acting chief administrator Amanda Bors said.

Meanwhile, staff with an inspection company that were to be here when treatment plant workers expected to rebuild a damaged stack “got tied up at the border,” Bob Bors said. They hadn’t provided another potential date for the visit, he said.
