Traffic safety fund grants support Biggar, Kindersley
EAGLE STAFF
The fourth phase of Biggar’s walking and bike trail is receiving the maximum grant of $100,000 from a provincial fund.
Eighty projects in 78 Saskatchewan communities will receive grants totalling over $2 million for traffic safety. Amounts range from just over $1,225 to $100,000. The money comes from fines generated by radar-camera traffic tickets.
Staff with the province and Saskatchewan Government Insurance “remain dedicated to making our roads safer for everyone," Jeremy Harrison, the cabinet minister responsible for SGI, said in the statement.
Kindersley is to get close to $28,400 to improve safety at a Main Street intersection, Elrose receives over $9,100 for a speed awareness program and Delisle will put up signs in a radar-controlled speed zone, a document indicated.
Communities may apply twice a year for grants from the fund. Projects must address such priorities as speeding, impaired or distracted driving, occupant protection, intersection safety and aggressive driving, the statement said.
Communities must apply by March 28 to qualify for the next round of grants.
