Suspicious transactions on a credit card statement: a quick guide

Have you spotted an unfamiliar charge on your credit card statement? Follow these steps to verify it.

Verify the merchant’s name

Some businesses use a branch code or licence name that differs from their brand name. Enter the name as it appears on your statement into a search engine to confirm the merchant.

Check the transaction location

Some businesses process payments through billing centres in other cities. Contact the merchant to verify the transaction details.

Pay attention to subscriptions

Even if you don’t recognize a transaction, it could be a recurring monthly or annual subscription you forgot about. Make a list of your subscriptions and contact the merchant if needed.

Do you still suspect fraud? Call your financial institution immediately.
