Bowlers played a High-Low Doubles house round on Jan. 11, resulting in Lynn Berger and Matthew Wakefield winning and going on to the provincial round. That will be on March 7-8 in Kelvington.

Basketball

In junior boys play, the visiting St. Gabriel Saints beat the Royals 44-39 here on Wednesday. Henry Wiens scored 10 points for the home team and Caleb Woudwijk and Will Speir each contributed eight points.

Klieve Sarto led the Saints with 19 points.

The Royals were to host Leader yesterday (Monday), host St. Gabriel again on Wednesday and play in Outlook on Friday.

The senior girls game here with Biggar was cancelled, said manager Jeannine James. They were to play in a tournament at LCBI this past weekend.

The senior boy Royals were to travel to Hafford for a tournament also this past weekend.

Their junior girl counterparts played in a tournament in Outlook on Jan. 9-10.

“We did well, especially with only one practice after the winter break,” said coach Krista Wenaas. “We definitely fell short on endurance, but the girls played hard till the end,” said the coach.

Sydney Dessert led them in scoring.

Karate

The Rosetown Karate Club will have belt testing at the end of January, said chief instructor Dave Smith last week.

Smith plans to take in a seminar for instructors in Spain in February. Rick Jorgensen, originally of Saskatchewan and former chair of the International Traditional Karate Federation, will put it on.

Attendance at the club this season has been down, said Smith. Membership is about 25-26, compared to 33 in 2024-25, which was high for recent years.
