About a dozen more areas in west-central Saskatchewan have 5G service after recent upgrades to cellular sites.
SaskTel's 5G network has expanded by more than 160 locations around the province, part of efforts "to deliver next-generation and hyper-fast wireless connectivity" to residents and businesses, a SaskTel statement said.
The service is now available through cell towers at Milden, Eston, Plato (northeast), Marriott, Plenty (southwest), Kelfield (northeast), Marriott, Kerrobert, Luseland, Tramping Lake, Landis, Perdue, Conquest, Broderick, Kenaston (west), Davidson (west), Blackstrap, Missinipe, Highway 307 south of Smiley, Highway 44 southeast of Eatonia and the intersection of highways 317 and 51 west of Major.
"From remote healthcare and online learning to smart farming and advanced transportation, 5G is unlocking new possibilities for our rural communities," cabinet minister Jeremy Harrison, whose responsibilities include SaskTel, said in the statement.
The company's 5G network can supply data speeds of up to 1.2 Gigabits per second (Gbps) "and, as it matures, the network will provide significantly faster speeds," the statement said. Customers must subscribe to a 5G-compatible wireless plan, be within a 5G coverage area and have a 5G-capable device certified for use on the company's 5G network.
