Sask. RCMP warn riders: ATV accidents can be deadly
Saskatchewan RCMP are warning residents to take ATV safety seriously after multiple collisions, including fatalities involving children.
Const. Michael Murray of Dillon RCMP said accidents aren’t a matter of “if,” but “when” if riders don’t change their behaviour.
RCMP offer these safety rules: wear a helmet and protective eyewear, drive at safe speeds, never carry passengers your ATV isn’t built for, and never ride impaired. Check local bylaws before heading out—some areas ban ATVs on roads, ditches and medians.
Operators must be 16 or older with a valid driver’s licence. Youth aged 12 to 15 may ride on public land if they’ve completed an approved ATV training course or are supervised by a licensed adult.
RCMP also recommend planning your route and letting someone know when you expect to return.
“Saskatchewan RCMP thank residents for helping keep our roads and communities safe,” the force said.
