Rosetown students to sell handmade goods at entrepreneurs market

By Ian MacKay

ROSETOWN – About 55 high school students are selling goods they've made on June 4.

The PowerPlay Young Entrepreneurs market happens over the noon hour in the Rosetown Central High School gym. Members of the Grade 8 class usually create and sell gifts for Father's Day, summer activities or the end of the school year, teacher Liz MacDonald said in a message.

They generally offer "things like keychains, jewelry, candles, bath scrubs, signs and games," MacDonald said. Students "learn about the value of market research and how to pick a product that can be marketed to a certain demographic or to fit a certain time of year," she explained.

"I know one student is making trail kits for people to carry during outdoor adventures this summer," she added.

Through the program, students gain entrepreneurial experience by setting up businesses to design and create handmade products with guidance in the classroom and at home, MacDonald said.

The market will be open from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
