Rosetown Royals among West Central qualifiers for provincial track and field meet

West Central District students, including 24 from Rosetown Central High School, were expected to compete in the provincial track and field meet in Saskatoon.
Twenty-five Rosetown Royals in Grades 9 and over qualified for the provincial meet by finishing first or second at the May 29-30 district meet, also in Saskatoon.
Five students from Dinsmore Composite School, two from Elrose Composite and one from North West School in Plenty also qualified at the district meet.
Four Royals won aggregate awards: Eli-Yah Fenosoa in senior boys, Hailey Burton in senior girls, Harper Kampen in intermediate girls and Henry Wiens in under-13 or bantam boys, said teacher-coach Krista Wenaas of Rosetown Central High.
Wiens and other under-13 competitors aren't old enough for the provincial meet.
Fenosoa qualified for the 100, 200, 100-metre hurdles and four-by-100 relay. Among other senior boys, Corbin Wiens qualified in the 1500, Jacob Weber in triple jump, Griffin White in the quadathlon and Giovanni Rinaldi in the four-by-100 relay.
Burton qualified in the 100, long jump, triple jump, discus and the four-by-100 relay. Five other senior girls also qualified: Reese Kampen in the 100, 200, 1500, 3000 and four-by-100 relay; Jordan Merrifield in the 400, long jump and four-by-400 relay; London Zacharias in hurdles; Neda Robertson in triple jump and four-by-100 relay; and Angela Matro in shot.
Three junior boys qualified: Glen Matro Jr. in long jump, triple jump and the four-by-100 relay; Aries Espino in triple jump and four-by-100 relay; and Ishaq Reid in discus.
Three junior girls qualified: Collins Legge in 1500, 3000 and discus; Kya Kennedy in shot; and Tess Kelly in javelin and four-by-100 relay.
Four intermediate boys qualified: Mark Mofolasayo in the 100, 200, triple jump and four-by-100 relay; Jude Merrifield in the 400 and Nichola Keith Grey Eyes and Wade Halliday in the 800.
Three Royals qualified among intermediate girls: Sydney Dessert in the 100, 200 and four-by-100 relay; Kensie Cowan in the 100 and four-by-100 relay; and Harper Kampen in the 800, 1500 and four-by-400 relay.
Blake Lawes of Dinsmore qualified by winning senior boys. Fellow Dinsmore Wildcat Makenzie Crofts won the junior girls 1500 and 3000 and placed second in the 400. Teammates Ainsley Beattie finished second in senior girls javelin, Rowen James won the intermediate boys 400 and Meyer Sawyer placed second in intermediate boys discus.
Brandon Friesen of Elrose Composite qualified by finishing second in junior boys shot and javelin. Another Elrose Eagle, Samantha Llesol, placed second in the intermediate girls 200 and long jump.
Sage Gilroy of North West Central finished second in the senior girls 200.
