Remember When: The York Hotel

A photo of the York Hotel, located at 101 Main Street, in the late 1930s or early 1940s. The vehicle parked in front is a 1936 Buick sedan. Originally known as the Albion Hotel, it was constructed in 1910-1911 and became the York Hotel in the 1930s, under the proprietorship of Bill Little, Ray Reilly, Vic Hicks, George Turner and Jess Reed. By the 1950s it became the York Dining Room under the ownership of Tom Scrivens. In 1979, it changed its name to The Brass Hood Restaurant. The building was demolished in 1983. This photo was part of a collection kept by Rob Thompson, a World War II Air Force veteran.
