Remember When: Kingsland school in 1999

The Kingsland school, as it stood in 1999. The Kingsland School was located at NE 16-32-16 W3rd and classes began in April 1909. The first teacher was Mr. W.H. Goodger and the first class consisted of 27 students. It was also the first school to exist in the R.M. of Mountain View. Being the first schoolhouse in the area, students came from the Glenellen, Engen, Oliver and Camberley districts until those districts built their own schools. 47 teachers taught here until the school closed in 1953, three years after becoming part of the Rosetown School Unit. After its closure, the building was used as a community centre, as most of the old one-room schoolhouses were. 1999 was the about last year it was utilized as such.
