Remember When: Camberley students in 1911

As we head into the graduation season, I want to share some of our school photos, of which we have plenty. In this photo, an unidentified teacher and nine students stand in front of the Camberley schoolhouse, ca. 1911. The Camberley School Division, formed on June 24, 1909, was situated on SW 10-32-15 W3rd. The one-storey frame building had the typical one classroom and two cloakrooms, and was built in 1910. Roy Smith was the first teacher at the school, earning a salary of $60 a month. Camberley School closed in 1966 after 56 years of service and the school was sold to Fred Parney in 1971 and moved onto his farm. If you can positively identify anyone in this photograph, contact Brittany at rosetownarchive@gmail.com.
