The senior Rosetown Redwings finished with a 6-2 win over the visiting Dodsland Stars on Dec. 19 to remain in first place in the Cross Roads Hockey League heading into the Christmas break. They next play the Unity Miners here on Jan. 3.
The Redwings have 12 points in seven games, while the Stars have 10 points in six games. The game served as a rematch from Dec. 13, when the Stars beat the Redwings 4-1 in Kerrobert. The Redwings had defeated the Kindersley Kodiaks 7-1 at home the night before.

On Dec. 19, Jordan Johnston scored twice, and linemates Jared Jagow and Kyle Ireland each added a goal. None of them were in the lineup in Kerrobert. Kane Dubé scored the game-winner at 14:52 of the first period, and Grady Ostrom also tallied. Carson Dobson and Troy Joyce scored for the Stars.
The Stars outshot the Redwings 43-42. Noah Martens tended the Redwing net, while Conner Kidd guarded the Stars’ goal.
In Kerrobert, all four of Dodsland’s goals came in the first period. Joyce, Jon McDonald, Derek Smith, and Riley Dipple scored for the Stars. Kayden Ostrom got the Redwings on the scoreboard at 11:58 of the third period. All goals were at even strength. The Stars outshot the Redwings 61-19, and Martens made 57 saves. Stars counterpart Kyle Turk blocked 18 Redwing shots.
The Redwings had only 13 skaters in Kerrobert, including backup goalie Jonathan Kampen, who hasn’t played “out” since atom hockey, said head coach Curtis MacDonald. A “full bench” was expected for Friday’s rematch, he added.
Against the Kodiaks, Walker Doetzel, Kyle Ireland, Kayden Ostrom, Corben Hogan, Jordan Johnston, John Hill, and Colt Cross scored Redwing goals. Ireland had three assists, and Ostrom two. Colby Kozicki scored for the Kodiaks. Noah Martens made 14 saves in the Redwing net, while Kaden Elliot stopped 16 Redwing shots.
