Redwings edge Ice Hawks 5-3 in provincial opener
By David McIver
Unless something changes, the Rosetown Redwings won’t face the Dodsland Stars again until March 13.
The schedule shift comes as Rosetown travels to Outlook on Friday for Game 2 of its senior C provincial playoff series against the Ice Hawks.
The Redwings were slated to host the Stars on Sunday in the opening game of the Cross Roads Hockey League final, two days after a hard-fought 5-3 victory over the Ice Hawks in Game 1 of provincials last Friday in Rosetown.
Grady Ostrom’s unassisted goal early in the third period stood as the winner. Jordan Johnston scored twice, while Jared Jagow and Corbin Hogan added singles. Kyle Ireland chipped in with two assists.
Kersey Reich, Alex Nieman and Kobe Kindrachuk replied for Outlook. C.J. Lewis and Sam Callahan each recorded two assists.
Noah Martens was sharp in the Redwing net, turning aside 52 shots. Derrick Hucul made 17 saves for the Ice Hawks.
