Redwings drop league final game as provincial series opens
By David McIver
The Rosetown Redwings lost the first game of a back-to-back road weekend in two championship series.
On Friday, the Dodsland Stars defeated the Redwings 3-1 in Kerrobert in the second game of the Cross Roads Hockey League final.
On Saturday, the Redwings were to play the Shaunavon Badgers in Shaunavon in the first game of the senior C provincial final series.
The Redwings will host the Stars this Friday, and the teams go back to Kerrobert on Saturday. The fifth game, if necessary, will be played here on March 27.
Jared Jagow got the Redwings’ lone goal at 19:39 of the first period on the power play, from Eric Robbie and Kyle Ireland.
Mitch Bradley got the Stars on the scoreboard just 13 seconds into the second period, with Riley Dipple assisting.
T.J. Greschner scored unassisted at 2:47 of the third period. Carson Dobson scored into an empty net at 19:45 to ice the win.
Noah Martens made 48 saves in the Redwings net.
At the other end, Conner Kidd stopped 23 Redwings shots.
The Redwings host the Badgers on Tuesday and, if necessary, will play in Shaunavon on Sunday.
Unlike the Redwings, the Badgers have the advantage of having finished their league playoffs. They defeated the Leader Flyers in overtime last Wednesday to win the White Mud Hockey League final in three straight games.
