Mayor to pay off Badgers bet after Redwings lose senior C final

Mayor Trevor Hay could be wearing a Shaunavon Badgers hockey jersey during the next town council meeting.
The Badgers defeated the Rosetown Redwings in the senior C provincial hockey finals last week, after the mayor had accepted a bet from Cal Vance, the mayor of Shaunavon.
“We hope Mayor Trevor Hay looks good in a Badgers jersey,” says an item about the wager on the Shaunavon website, which proclaims, “Where the West is Still Wild.”
Vance called the town office to initiate the bet over which team would win the title, Hay said during the March 16 council meeting.
“We talked about a couple of different things and the topic of wearing the opposition’s jersey came up, one day at a council meeting as well as one day” at the annual convention of the Saskatchewan Urban Municipalities Association, Hay said. “We both agreed to that,” he said.
The convention runs from April 12 to 15 in Regina.
The Redwings were down one game in the best-of-three series by the time of the meeting and Hay expected many fans from Shaunavon to attend the second game here the following evening.
“Hopefully, we have a big crowd here tomorrow night to support our crew and come up with a ‘W,’ so I’m looking forward to that,” he said. The Badgers would dress “a couple of players” who performed with the Redwings senior AAA team several years ago, Hay noted.
The Badgers won 6-4 last Tuesday after opening the series with a 6-0 shutout in Shaunavon.
