Main Street re-paving contractor selected, timing uncertain

ROSETOWN – A contractor has been selected to re-pave four blocks of Main Street but it's uncertain when that will happen.

The town had received bids from three firms for the work on the section from Railway Avenue to Fourth Avenue, acting chief administrator Amanda Bors indicated during the council meeting last Tuesday.

It will be a mill-and-recap process, Mayor Trevor Hay said. The town budgeted $400,000 for the project last March.

"It's basically maintenance, before it gets to a stage where we have huge potholes," Hay said. "The time is right and it won't cost as much to do it now."

He said the town had received no guarantee for the pavement that covers Marshall Avenue and the 700 block of Main Street, answering a question from councillor John Kadler.

"It's just an overlay" to fill potholes and smooth their surfaces, Hay said, adding, "People quit driving on (Marshall) because it was so bad."

Councillors also approved payments that totalled almost $208,000 for sewer relining and $172,000 for a 2014 Case bulldozer that staff will use to compress material at the transfer station.

The bulldozer "came in under budget," Bors said. "They've actually been using it. It works great."
