Federal grants now doubled for seniors projects
GATINEAU, QC -- The federal government has doubled its maximum grant to $50,000 for community seniors projects and opened applications for the 2026-27 funding cycle.
The New Horizons for Seniors Program accepted proposals until July 14, 2026. Organizations must apply through the Grants and Contributions Online Services portal and hold a Canada Revenue Agency business number.
Capital assistance is capped at $25,000 per project. Projects run up to 52 weeks.
A new assessment criterion now favours organizations whose primary mandate centres on seniors. Applications by other methods remain available on request.
The program funds projects across five areas: senior volunteering, community mentoring, elder abuse awareness, social inclusion, and capital assistance for facilities or programs.
Secretary of State for Seniors Stephanie McLean made the announcement June 2 in Gatineau. McLean noted the program has funded more than 45,000 projects since 2004, with federal investment now exceeding $1 billion. More than 900,000 seniors participate annually through 400 local organizations.
Project proposals must include seniors in lead, planning, or delivery roles.
Organizations can contact their nearest NHSP office for application support or visit the New Horizons for Seniors Program webpage.
