Angels honour late teammate Matt Speir at Rosetown sports day

In their only Fertile Valley Baseball League action in the past week, the Rosetown Angels lost 6-4 to the Raiders in Kindersley on June 14.
The Angels were to host the Oyen Eagles last Sunday, play the Klippers in Kindersley tonight (Tuesday) and host the Raiders this Sunday afternoon.
Joel McGrath and John Calwell played their first games as Angels, said Angels player-manager Ryan Wickett who couldn't make the game.
Will Speir heads for home as third-base coach Trent Aylward watches in the bottom of the seventh inning. He crossed the plate for the last run for the Red team who defeated Blue 5-2 in what was supposed to be the senior Angels vs. alumni game during the June 13 sports day here. It was actually a lighthearted contest between two evenly mixed teams who all wore No. 11 in memory of long-time Angel and Will’s late father, Matt Speir. Photo by David McIver
McGrath had some good hits, said fellow Angel Dustin Moore who did make the trip.
Noah Martens started as the Angels' pitcher and Tyrus Thomson finished the game, said Moore.
The Angels played what was billed as an Angels versus alumni game to close the Rosetown sports day on Saturday, June 13.
Two former Angels, Corey Gowen and Dave Foursha, and some who'd never been Angels played, said Wickett.
The teams were each mixes of older and younger players and Team Red and Team Blue might have been more appropriate names. Wickett pitched for Red and Craig Wagar for Blue. Red won 5-2.
Every player wore No. 11 which had been worn by their late teammate, Matt Speir. The club had taken Matt's jerseys, had them framed and presented them to widow Heather and family at home plate prior to the game.
Matt's brother A.J. played in the game as did one of Matt's sons, Will, and two of Will's friends, Maddex Gray and Cohen Wickett.
