48 Elrose, Dinsmore students qualify for district meet

Local and area students took part in the West Central District track and field meet in Saskatoon last Friday and Saturday. Elrose and Dinsmore students qualified to attend the meet on the basis of top eight finishes in events at the east sectional meet held in Davidson on May 21, stated Dinsmore teacher-coach Lance Morrison, who also supplied results from the east meet. Only the top eight in each event are listed below.
Four Dinsmore Wildcats qualified among the senior boys. Ashley Alberto of Dinsmore Composite won the 100 in 12.16 seconds and finished second in the 200 and triple jump. Teammates Alex Gauthier and Zack Morrison finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 100. Gauthier ran the 100-metre hurdles as the sole entrant, doing so in 17.93 seconds and finishing fourth in long jump and triple jump. Blake Lawes won javelin with a 37.76-metre throw and placed fifth in discus.
For the senior girls, Lindsey Campbell of Elrose Composite won the 400 in one minute, 18.34 seconds and the long jump with a 3.43-metre jump. She also finished third in shot. Dezarae Jordan of Dinsmore Composite finished third in discus and fifth in shot. Among her teammates, Ainsley Beattie placed second in javelin, sixth in discus and eighth in shot. Addi Sawyer finished sixth in shot.
In the junior boys category, Brandon Friesen of Elrose won javelin with a 32.11-metre throw and placed second in shot and third in discus. Ty Green of Dinsmore finished second in javelin and fifth of five competitors in shot. Harrison Calwell of Elrose placed fifth in the 400 and seventh in the 100. Owen Varty of Elrose finished second in the two-entrant 1500, third in the 800 and sixth in the long jump. Sam Ellis of Dinsmore placed second of two in the junior boys tetrathlon. He finished with 1,502 points to 1,587 for the winner, having won the 100 in 12.85 seconds and the shot with an 8.84-metre put and finished second in the 800 and long jump.
In the junior girls category, Makenzie Crofts of Dinsmore won the 1500 in six minutes, 48.52 seconds. She also placed second in the two-runner 400 and third among three in the 80-metre hurdles. Harlie McNeely, also of Dinsmore, finished third among three in javelin.
In the intermediate (14-15) boys category, Rowen James of Dinsmore won the 400 in one minute, 6.22 seconds and finished third in the 100 and 200 and sixth in discus. Lucas Bencharski of Dinsmore finished second in long jump and javelin and fourth in discus. Kalder Nickason of Elrose placed third in triple jump, sixth in long jump and seventh in the 100. Meyer Sawyer of Dinsmore finished third in discus, fifth in triple jump and eighth in long jump. PC Strydom of Elrose placed fifth in javelin, sixth in shot and eighth in discus.
Elrose competitors did well in the intermediate (ages 14-15) girls group. Samantha Llesol of Elrose Composite School won the 200 in 31.68 seconds and the high jump with a 1.30-metre jump and placed second in the 100 and the long jump. Teammate Jade Beattie finished third in javelin and sixth in the triple jump. Charity Pajunen of Dinsmore placed second in javelin and eighth in the intermediate girls triple jump. Among her teammates, Sidney Keeler won the discus with a throw of 24.46 metres and placed fourth in shot. Fellow Wildcat Abigail Pajunen finished sixth in javelin.
Among under-13 boys, Jayse Friesen of Elrose won the high jump with a 2.06-metre jump and the discus with a 30.31-metre throw and placed second in the 100. Oscar Minogue won the triple jump with an 8.92-metre effort. He also finished second in the 800 and 1500 and fifth in long jump. Felix Minogue placed third in triple jump, tied for third in the 1500, placed fourth in the 800 and was in a three-way tie for fifth in high jump. Tanner Minogue of Elrose finished fifth in the 200 and sixth in the 100 and shot. Zandro Fouche of Elrose won the 80-metre hurdles in 16.47 seconds, placed fourth in the 400, tied for seventh in the 200 and tied for eighth in high jump. Jim Ellingson finished third in the 80-metre hurdles and sixth in long jump. Kratos Gervais of Dinsmore placed seventh in the 80-metre hurdles and eighth in the 800. Archer McBain of Dinsmore finished fourth and teammate Kian James, fifth, in the 80-metre hurdles. Alex Keeler of Dinsmore finished fifth in shot and eighth in discus. Layne Keeler placed eighth in javelin.
Among under-13 girls, Aubrey James of Dinsmore Composite finished second in the 200, was in a three-way tie for third in high jump and seventh in the 100. Fellow Wildcat Mayah Heidt placed third in the 200. Lena Ellingson of Elrose Composite placed third in the 80-metre hurdles, sixth in long jump and eighth in the 100 and shot. Heili Duvenage of Elrose won the 80-metre hurdles in 15.80 seconds and finished second in the 400. Six other Eagles placed highly in this category. Leandre Van Zyl placed third in the 400, fourth in the 800 and seventh in triple jump. Jana Duvenage won the 800 in two minutes, 44 seconds even, the 1500 in six minutes, 0.59 seconds and discus with a throw of 20.43 metres and placed second in shot. Roquet Sedgwick placed sixth in the 800. Surine Duvenage placed sixth in discus. Wilmien Schutte and Brooklyn Longworth, both of Elrose, tied for eighth in triple jump. Longworth finished eighth in discus.
Three Dinsmore Wildcats qualified in this group. Adele Sol of Dinsmore finished fourth in the 400 and seventh in the 200. Jeht Flath placed fifth in the 800, sixth in the 400 and eighth in javelin. Ali Morrison finished third in javelin, fifth in the 80-metre hurdles and tied for eighth in high jump.
